How does it work?

LocalMole is a business directory which helps you find the best local business for your needs. You can save these businesses to a short-list for future use.

It's easy:

• Search and find a great business or service, be it a restaurant or a 24 hour locksmith. You can search by business name, business type or location.
• Once you have found a list of the businesses you were looking for you can sort them by name, those nearest to you or most relevant to your requirements.
• Once you have selected the business you can contact them by email them, phone or visiting their website.

How is LocalMole different from other business directory sites?

Local newspapers have been at the heart of local communities for well over a hundred years. Traditionally, they have been the best way for local businesses to connect with local customers – but then came the internet…

Today, for many people, Google is their first stop when they are looking for any information –including looking for local businesses. Google is great but often produces more questions than answers.

LocalMole.co.uk is brought to you by the UK 's largest publisher of national and local newspapers so it combines years of knowledge about what both local advertisers and consumers want.

Because we have thousands of people working for us up and down the country we make sure the data is as up-to-date as possible, enabling LocalMole to offer you the chance to make the best decision about a local business.

Is registration free?

Yes, registration to LocalMole is totally free enabling you to search, save favorites and send to facebook. Businesses pay to upgrade their listing, this, along with some adverting on the site, makes it 100% free to search, which is handy.

Is it only businesses that pay that are on LocalMole?

No, not at all. We have 1.8 million business listings on the site. Local businesses can pay to upgrade their listing to show more information about their services, adding things like photos and special offers, but these are clearly marked. We don't charge businesses to have a basic listing with us thereby maximising access for our users to as many choices as possible.

Who are Trinity Mirror and how are they involved?

Trinity Mirror plc is one of the largest media groups in the UK with a multi-platform portfolio including five National newspapers, over 150 daily and weekly regional newspapers and over 400 digital sites. We're pretty darn big.

Why LocalMole?

Now we know LocalMole seems funny at first (you should have seen some of the other names on the shortlist), but there is method in our madness. We think customers are going to love it and we know it will grow on you too.

Here's our thinking:

• The internet in general, and online directories in particular, are all about digging up the best information and what digs better than a mole?
• A mole's network of tunnels can be many miles long (that's a lot for such a small animal). The LocalMole network is many hundreds of miles long and contains millions of listings.
• They may not have the best eyesight in the world but they have a great sense of direction and smell – all the better for finding the right business; especially if it's a bakery – mmmm.
• They are also just quite cute and pretty smart too.

Who's Doug?

Doug is the name of our Mole? You'll see a lot of him on the site. When you don't it's probably because he's off finding new businesses for you to search, or looking for worms!
