Ho Wong Restaurant in Restaurant - Chinese

82 York Street, Glasgow, G2 8LE

0141 221 3550

Succulent sea food, vibrant flavours and plenty of contented diners - Joanna Blythman discovers real Chinese food in grown-up surroundings SUNDAY HERALD Next time I go to the Ho Wong, (soon, I hope) I'm going to take along a tape recorder to capture the satisfying sound of clinking plates, chopsticks tapping on bowls, sizzling platters and the mellow conversation hum of many contented diners. By way of soundtrack designed to provoke relaxation, it would be up there with New Age lapping waves and calling dolphins. Perhaps its reaction to trendy stripped-floor restaurant where there's nothing to absorb the sound. Either the place is empty, in which case it feels like eating in a cathedral, or it's busy in which event it sounds like a reverberating school canteen when the first year boys arrive

Amore in Restaurant - Italian

30 Ingram Street, Merchant City,, Glasgow, G1 1EZ

0141 553 0810

Amore opened it’s doors in September 2008 in the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow, and has continued to serve up fantastic dishes within the elegant decor which has had no expense spared. All of this makes Amore a state of the art restaurant and a fine dining ambience that can be enjoyed by anyone, from couples, families and casual diners alike. Every small detail has been taken care of from the private booths, romantic setting and even the branded napkins, uniforms and gifts. Amore is the Italian word for ‘love’, but it is also related to ‘passion’, which Italians use commonly to emphasise the love for food and wine. This business is run by the Perella family, originally from the village of Picinsco in Southern Italy, with care and commitment. But the word ‘Amore’ has been chosen also as the name for the restaurant to homage the owner’s wife, as she generally uses this word to refer to her husband when, as he believes, she is in ‘a good mood’.
