Lauries has been the originator and the mainstay of the Celtic Connections fringe, a strong supporter of Folk Festivals and Traditional Music. Have a look at The Ballad Workshop ! Lauries is also the new home of the former Riverside Club Ceilidh, still run by Mary Laurie. The Riverside Club was the real star of Ceilidhs in it's day - it is now eclipsed - LAURIE'S has it all!! Cy Laurie, the Proprietor, is a well-known Scottish Traditional singer with strong Folk Music links, who has hosted many successful Charity events. Cy is committed to Acoustic Music, whether it be Folk song, Jazz or Country. Lauries resident Uptown Shufflers trad jazz band on Saturday from 2.30 until 5.30, is a major feature - you can't fail to enjoy this wonderful Live Jazz Saturday afternoon. At Lauries, you will receive a friendly welcome from owners Cy and Mary Laurie, and manageress Pat Murray. We have Ceilidh every SATURDAY from 8pm!
Tucked away in the tiny village of Glassford near Strathaven within close proximity for those travelling from the surrounding areas of Hamilton, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire and Glasgow - we are a traditional family run business who have created a homely ambience within a country setting that allows you to enjoy good food and company in comfort. Your table is reserved for the evening, encouraging you to relax for this experience. Highly recommended, our food is modelled on French and Scottish ethics of simplicity married with the very best of ingredients locally sourced. After agonising over the tantalising menus you can enjoy the attentive service of our friendly staff. Homemade herb breads and chocolates are on offer to compliment the wide variety of fresh food produce. Specialities include Fish, Game & Seafood. We cater for Sunday Lunch and dinner can be chosen from our table dhote or a la carte menus which change regularly. Corporate and private parties are welcomed.
The spirits gallery is more than a match for the bartenders' skills but, if you simply fancy a bottle of quality imported beer, you'll not go thirsty either. Things get pretty lively at the weekend with their resident DJ's taking to the wheels-of-steel playing funk and hip hop on Friday and Saturday evenings. If you're making a full evening of it, BoBar is ideal for pre-dinner cocktails before coming next door to Bo'Vine restaurant. What's in a name? Byres Road; this is where cows were milked for the Glasgow Market. Bó; that's Gaelic for Cow. Beau; we borrowed that from the French and it is pronounced "Bo" meaning beautiful or handsome. Vine French "Élaboration du vin viné"; that's the preparation of fortified wine and, of course, a type of climbing plant on which grapes grow. Bovine, a noun, is an animal of the cattle group which also includes buffaloes and bisons. So, Bo'Vine; a delightful new restaurant for meats, wines and good friends. Enjoy your meal!
