Carillion Energy Services
The early years of this century have already illustrated a pace of change in the world which is unprecedented in our lifetime. As governments, societies and communities wrestle with and respond to the challenges of a changing world and a constantly shifting agenda, the need for confident, informed leadership in the pursuit of solutions becomes increasingly apparent. Carillion Energy Services is a company which does not just observe change; it pushes change, manages change and optimises change. Carillion Energy Services is a leader of change - a company which can change the way we think and the way we live. The generations of today and tomorrow will have to harness and harvest the resources of a changing natural world more imaginatively than all who have gone before. Carillion Energy Services will continue to set an agenda today and tomorrow, pioneering and providing solutions through which resources, innovation and human endeavour must combine to sustain and improve our quality of life at home, across our communities and in the workplace. This will be a greener world, a more efficient world, as it has to be. Carillion Energy Services is very clear of its place, its responsibility and the opportunities for all of its stakeholders in managing the future. We are excited by the challenge. Carillion Energy Services is the UK’s leading installer of cavity wall and loft insulation, managing 1.2 million calls a year, surveying 25,000 homes a month and working in hundreds of homes every day. We are the insulation supplier of choice for many of our customers including major house builders, contractors, utility companies, local authorities, social housing providers and private households. With over 25 years experience we provide high quality, cost effective and sustainable solutions, tailored to the needs of our customers. Our installations lower carbon footprints and reduce emissions by 113,088 tonnes a year. We work with public bodies - local authorities, housing associations, government departments and agencies – private households, schools, hospitals and businesses to provide insulation solutions that lower carbon footprints, drive improvements in energy efficiency and reduce heating costs. Installing cavity wall and loft insulation could save a household up to £365 a year. Carillion Energy Services offers external wall insulation solutions through our own in-house supplier and manufacturer of external wall insulation systems; PermaRock Products Ltd, who provide a range of systems tailored towards application onto existing homes. External wall insulation has been developed to improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings, particularly solid wall or “hard to treat” homes that are not able to benefit from cavity wall insulation, through the application of rigid insulation to the external wall surfaces. The insulation is then reinforced and finished with a weatherproof render. Acting as a ‘thermal jacket’ around a property, PermaRock systems are Energy Saving Trust (EST) approved and can save up to £500 per year on fuel costs
St Cuthberts Care Ltd
The charity was founded in 1946 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. Known as the Hexham and Newcastle Diocesan Rescue Society, it provided residential care for orphaned children from the aftermath of World War II. Throughout the decades, the charity gradually expanded and diversified. In 1982, the charity was registered and also became a private limited company by guarantee. In 1986, the charity changed its name to Catholic Care North East, in order to reflect the broader range of services that it provided across the region. Remaining firmly rooted within the Catholic Church, the charity re-named in 1997 to St Cuthberts Care. Saint Cuthbert, the revered seventh century Bishop of Lindisfarne, practised Christianity through his own example, tirelessly bringing his holiness and humility to both populated and remote parts of his Diocese. St Cuthberts Care is proud to bear the name of St Cuthbert, a name symbolizing centuries of Faith and Devotion in the North of England. It embodies the wide scope and nature of our Purpose, namely: "Working for the common good by enabling people to develop to their personal potential" In practice this means that our energies and resources are spent where there is greatest need. Increasingly this has come to mean that St Cuthberts Care offers community initiatives and care services where there is no-one else willing or able to do so. We work with the most disadvantaged, poor, vulnerable or dispossessed in our society. The principles that underline the work of the charity include: Recognition of the inherent dignity of each individual, Support for groups and communities committed to furthering the common good, Empowering people to take responsibility, and achieve self-reliance, Stewardship over our resources in a careful and appropriate manner, Demonstrating integrity and excellence in the work that we do. As an Investors in People organization we are committed to the development and success of our staff, and in achieving best practice standards in our work. In addition, St Cuthberts Care carries the 'positive about disabled people' symbol, awarded to us by JobCentre Plus for our positive commitment to employing, keeping and developing people with disabilities
St. Vincent De Paul Society
The St Vincent de Paul Society (or as it is often known - the SVP) is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need – irrespective of ideology, faith, ethnicity, age or gender. The Society is a lay organisation initially formed in Paris in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam and his companions, and active in England & Wales since 1844. Placed under the Patronage of St Vincent de Paul, it is inspired by his thinking and works. It seeks, in the spirit of justice and charity, to help those who are suffering poverty in whatever form. The work of the SVP falls into two main areas: membership activity and Special Works. The main work of the volunteer members is to befriend and assist individuals and families in need on a person-to-person basis, through visits to domestic residences, care homes, hospitals, prisons and other institutions. In England & Wales , around 10,000 volunteer members in 1,100 mainly parish-based groups make more than half a million visits each year to vulnerable people in their communities. In addition to member visits, the Society also operates a number of "Special Works", which seek to serve people in a wider area or give more specialised help in a certain aspect of the work. These Special Works currently include holiday schemes, children's summer camps, furniture stores, community shops, support centres, soup runs, residential care, deaf clubs, debt counselling, community transport and asylum care. Direct support and financial assistance is also provided to people in need overseas through its international network of volunteers and the SVP Disaster Fund. Founded by students in 1833, the SVP today runs an active programme of youth development in parishes, schools and universities. The aim of the St Vincent de Paul Society is the same today as it was at its conception in the 19th Century: to tackle poverty in all its forms through the provision of practical assistance to those in need. The concept of need is broader than financial hardship, so visiting the sick, the lonely, the addicted, the imprisoned and those suffering from disabilities form a large proportion of the Society's work. The Society is active in more than 148 countries and has nearly 600,000 members worldwide. In England and Wales, its more than 10,000 volunteers annually carry out more than 500,000 recorded visits. The essential work of the Society is person-to-person contact, and, as this is a fundamental part of the Society's ethos, it does not make donations to any work in which members are not personally involved. However, it recognises that material or financial assistance may help those it visits overcome crises and develop longer-term solutions to their problems. When financial problems are involved, the main objective is to foster sound budgeting and debt management. It may be possible to supply some items of furniture or clothing, but the responsibility to ensure we do not leave people dependent on help is recognised. Training is available to members, ensuring that they are equipped to carry out their work in a competent manner. The Society operates in small groups called "Conferences", which are often based in local parishes or schools. They meet regularly to review their work as well as allocating future work in a spirit of prayer and mutual support. The work of a Conference is usually concentrated on local visiting. Over the years, the SVP has responded to social changes, providing a range of additional services depending on the prevailing need. Today, these “Community Support Projects/Special Works” include furniture stores, support centres, providing accommodation to vulnerable people, disability projects, soup runs, children's camps and various holiday schemes amongst other things. The most recent initiative is the creation of Community Shops providing resources and employment in areas of deprivation. Since 1999, the Society also runs a Youth Development programme in parishes, schools and universities. Youth SVP aims to empower young people through their involvement in local community projects and other volunteering activities. Internationally, groups in the developing world are "Twinned" with groups in more affluent countries, supporting each other with correspondence and mutual prayer. Financial support is also provided in the form of regular contributions, student sponsorship, specific projects and a "disaster fund" to help the local Society cope with disasters in their own country. The SVP is part of the Vincentians in Partnership, an umbrella organisation set up to oppose structural injustice and foster collaboration among those organisations, groups, trusts, charities and religious congregations in Great Britain which are influenced by the spirit of St Vincent de Paul
