We rent a property from Oystons and to say we are not their biggest fans would be an understatement. I know that 'money for old rope' charges are a staple of all lettings agencies, you know, contract fees, credit rating check fees (even though you can do your own for free), administrative fees, 'its tuesday' fees and so on, but where Oystons specialise is in not really appearing to do anything, AND charging loads for the honour. They currently want us to pay £50 each to sign a new contract that's identical to our last contract. I'm hoping its going to be drawn up by President Obama himself, or printed on gold leaf for that money. It's only 5p a sheet to print at the corner shop. And our poor landlady ends up looking after every element of the property and it's upkeep, as Oystons usefulness is best equated to a chocolate fire surround, and you're left wondering what exactly they do to earn their percentage. Basically, we've given up ringing them if anything breaks or we want/need some work doing on the house, and just go direct to the landlady, who knows how to get things done, and understands that if the heating breaks in winter, that's a bit urgent and should probably be taken care of within the next few days. Then there's the comedic and probably illegal demands, such as when they wrote us a letter telling us that they had decided that it was now required that we had home insurance. They were kind enough to recommend an insurance company, whom I'm sure where in no way affiliated with Oystons. After a heated phone debate Oystons were politely informed of a suitable location for their insurance policy demands, and we later burnt the letter in our beautiful chocolate fireplace. Another favourite is when they book a home viewing or property inspection, tell you they'll fine you £25 (a recurring theme) if you don't show up for it or let them know you can't attend within 24 hours, and then they fail to show up for it. This means you spend several hours tidying the house, take some time off work, and wait in for the visit, only for them to not show up... or bother let you know. It's a real shame to call off maple syrup pig wrestling days for a home viewing that never occurs, let me tell you. I may start writing them letters informing them of my policy of fining anyone who gets me to tidy for no reason £250. All that said, they aren't evil, well any more than any other estate agent is (that's like saying that a great white isn't much more bitey than a tiger shark), and I do have a natural dislike of lettings agencies, so I don't want anyone to think this is anything personal...

I used Pearsons 10 years ago for conveyancing, and they were not only one of the cheapest around, they were fast, friendly and pleasant to deal with. So when I needed a solicitor again recently I went back, and at first was not sure as the solicitor we had used had retired, but was delighted to say we got the same excellent service. Every time I sent an email, it was responded to very quickly which is reassuring when you are dealing with big issues. After the business was complete, we returned to sort out another legal matter with them, and again received very personal and efficient service. They have the feel of a local family firm. Nothing fancy, don't expect glitzy offices and cappuccinos, this is good local business done well, and your money goes on good efficient service, not glamorous city centre offices. Would not hesitate to return again.

Myself and my little boy had our lunch in this lovely local pub. It was very nice and well presented. The staff was kind and welcoming. There was a few other customers in and they seemed pleased too! I would recommend this local pub to anyone! so go and enjoy!!
