Maxie Richards established the foundation in 1994, having spent numerous years working with addicted people. Maxie's work has been recognised over the years with numerous awards and accolades. She has received the awards of Scotswoman of the Year and the prestigious Churchill Fellowship. The aims of the Maxie Richards Foundation are twofold: * To advance the education of people in Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom about the misuse of illicit and prescribed drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and to relieve the suffering and stress of people addicted to such drugs. * To advance the education of people on the related social, sexual and health problems connected with the use of the above substances

The role of the UK Committee is to publicise the work of the Homes, to raise funds for the school and to seek sponsors who will support these children in their education by paying for their boarding and schooling and giving them the opportunity to support themselves and attain self respect, as they reach adulthood.
